My name is Laura Alfonso Brown, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor. I received my Bachelor of Arts from Carnegie Mellon University and my Master of Arts from Dallas Theological Seminary. I have worked in numerous settings, including a children’s advocacy center, a partial hospitalization/intensive outpatient program, and private practice. I have experience with play therapy, group therapy, and individual therapy.
Currently, I work with adolescents (12+) and adults. I have advanced training in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Expressive Arts, Mindfulness and Exposure and Response Prevention. Additionally, I am trained in EMDR. I have worked with a variety of issues, but my primary areas of specialty include trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression, OCD, ADHD, sexual abuse, Christian counseling (if requested) and Spanish speakers. I am bilingual and able to offer sessions in Spanish or English. As a Cuban-American, I have additional familiarity with multicultural contexts and Hispanic culture.
I am passionate about helping clients express feelings, adopt helpful thought patterns, and achieve meaningful change. I take a holistic view of counseling, and my approach is responsive toward the unique needs and strengths of every client. Issues with mental health can make life feel small and limited. I want to partner with you to build a big life, filled with the opportunities and experiences that matter most to you.
