Hi there! My name is Jo Ellen Bartholomew, and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the states of Texas and California. I received my Bachelor of Science in Child Development from California State University and my Master of Science in Counseling from San Diego State University, California.
I worked in foster care and group homes for many years before moving to psychiatric hospitals, where I primarily worked with clients with depression and anxiety. Later, I had the opportunity to work alongside adults and teens in substance abuse treatment, as well as their families in outpatient and inpatient settings in Southern California and Dallas - roles which I greatly enjoyed. I most recently have embraced private practice and all the opportunities it offers.
Currently I work with ages 18 up to the more seasoned adults of “seniors.” While I utilize many forms of treatment, I most frequently pull from Mindfulness, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Family Systems approaches. I am also trained in EMDR and have found this to be a modality that allows people to move more rapidly through trauma and psychological difficulties. Additionally, I have advanced trainings in working with anxiety and depression.
My clients would describe me as direct. During the course of treatment, I will actively engage you and may even have you try out role playing some of the skills we work to learn! I have had the opportunity to work with many issues, but my specialties include women’s issues, couples and family relationships, depression, anxiety, grief, loneliness, trauma, anger, self-esteem, Christian counseling if requested, and life transitions.
With over 25 years of experience, I am ready and excited to help you meet your goals and find a more authentic way of living. The first step of reaching out for help is one of the hardest, and I applaud you for making that decision. Thank you for considering me to be a part of your journey - seeing people grow and change is one of my favorite things.
